Pitching to Living Free U.K.

What makes a good pitch for LFUK’s Digital Magazine?

At Living Free U.K, we love pitches that will help us tell stories about LGBTQ+ people, specifically the community in Africa. But as is everything, it can be challenging to know what exactly to pitch.

For our digital magazine, which we plan on releasing yearly in the meantime, we want stories that dive into LGBTQ+ history, culture, policies, and every other thing you can think of. We want our readers to leave with new information. Our digital magazine is a place for people to read stories about people doing the work, people in love, heartfelt stories.

So before sending us your pitch, be sure the story you want to tell is something our readers will enjoy.

We want Evergreen and Original ideas. If you plan on speaking with people, let us know what they’ll be adding to your story. If you’re going to work with a photographer or illustrator, please, let us know. While we have a limited budget, we want the writers who work with us to enjoy the process.

What to include in your pitch?

  1. A headline with the word ‘PITCH’ before it.
  2. Two to Three paragraphs of your idea, with people you’ll speak with if applicable.
  3. Link to a writing sample for us to get a sense of your style. It doesn’t have to be on your proposed topic. But not to worry if you do not have any. We’re open to working with first-time writers.
  4. Why are you the person to write this?

Please, send pitches to Editor in Chief, Chisom Peter Job, at [email protected]. Feel free to follow up if you do not receive a reply within five business days.

Note: Due to our limited budget, we are focusing on Nigeria. But writers living in other African countries are encouraged to send an inquiry before pitching, and we’ll get back to you.
